Biologics Department Office Renovation
5,000 sq ft | Summit
Set within a suite of state-of-the-art research and development laboratories, this private biologics division sought an office revitalization to strengthen their work processes. As Construction Manager, Berkowsky and Associates, Inc. (BAI) began by reviewing the construction documents with the design team, setting up protection for the surrounding rooms, and gutting the space to its shell.
Coring the concrete slabs allowed a rough-in of new utilities–mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection–while new offices were framed, including two huddle rooms. New ductwork, glass partitions, doors, frames, hardware, and custom millwork were installed, followed by the floating ceiling, lighting, adjustable office furniture, carpeting, and paint.
Unique to the space is the frosted glass partition that visually separates the open floor from the entryway. The frosting is opaque at the floor and gradually reveals in ascension, easing the transition into the work space and providing some privacy to those working. Collaboration is invited at the writable wall surfaces and reprieve is found by the cafe’s custom tile art installation illuminated by globe pendants. The space was completed on time and under budget, but even more enamored by the mural, the client was moved to recreate the space in adjacent suites.
